Cosmicport Space Technology Private Limited, Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu
Department: R&D, Launch Vehicle
Employment Type: Full-Time
Minimum Experience: Mid-level
Cosmicport, a space technology startup, is building a launch vehicle tailored for small and medium-range satellites, in addition to advancing Earth Observation Satellites (EOS) designed for Sun-Synchronous Orbits (SSO) to serve commercial entities. Our cost-effective reusable launch vehicle provides precise and dependable launch solutions, facilitating the establishment of constellation platforms. The role being offered involves significant contributions to the design, Structural and Thermal simulation of the spacecraft and launch vehicle sub-systems, and the incumbent will be an integral part of the Research and Development (R&D) launch vehicle team.
Responsibilities:
- As a Structural Analysis Engineer specializing in Space Launch Vehicle Design, you will play a critical role in ensuring the structural integrity, safety, and performance of space launch vehicles. Your responsibilities will involve conducting complex structural analyses, utilizing advanced engineering tools and methodologies, to support the design, development, and optimization of spacecraft and launch vehicle structures.
- Conduct static and dynamic structural analyses for various components of space launch vehicles, including but not limited to payload fairings, stages, propulsion systems, and support structures.
- Perform finite element analysis (FEA) and other advanced analysis techniques to evaluate structural responses under different loading conditions, such as aerodynamic forces, vibrations, thermal gradients, and launch-induced loads.
- Collaborate with materials engineers to assess and select appropriate materials for different structural components based on performance requirements, weight constraints, and environmental conditions.
- Work closely with the design team to provide structural input during the early phases of vehicle design, offering guidance on geometry, material selection, and overall structural configurations.
- Conduct structural optimization studies to enhance the overall performance, reliability, and efficiency of space launch vehicle structures.
- Perform failure mode and effects analysis to identify potential failure points and assess the risk associated with structural design choices.
- Develop mitigation strategies to address identified risks and ensure the structural robustness of the launch vehicle.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including aerodynamics, thermal analysis, and propulsion, to integrate structural considerations into the overall design process.
- Stay current with industry standards and regulations related to structural design and analysis for space launch vehicles.
Basic Qualification:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in structural analysis, particularly in the aerospace or space industry.
- Proficiency in FEA tools and structural analysis software.
- Strong understanding of materials science and experience with material testing.
- Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
- Detail-oriented with a strong problem-solving mindset.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with software such as ANSYS, NASTRAN, or ABAQUS.
- Knowledge of launch vehicle dynamics, thermal analysis, and vibration analysis.
- Familiarity with spacecraft integration and launch operations.
- Programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, and LabVIEW) for data analysis and model development.
- Ability to deliver against an aggressive schedule.
Compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis with consideration of knowledge, skills, education, and experience. You may be eligible for annual bonuses. Insurance coverages and retirement plans are being worked upon and will be disclosed after hire.
