Cosmicport, a space technology startup, is building a launch vehicle tailored for small and medium-range satellites, in addition to advancing Earth Observation Satellites (EOS) designed for Sun-Synchronous Orbits (SSO) to serve commercial entities. Our cost-effective reusable launch vehicle provides precise and dependable launch solutions, facilitating the establishment of constellation platforms. The role being offered involves significant contributions to the design, simulation, integration, and testing of the propulsion system, and the incumbent will be an integral part of the Research and Development (R&D) team.
Responsibilities:
- Acts as the point of convergence for any technical decision-making.
- Leads the project management efforts overseeing the design, development, testing, and production stages of Cosmicport’s space systems tailored for Lower Earth Orbit and/or deep space missions.
- Collaborates with the Core Engineering Team to strategize and implement the Reusable Launch Vehicle project.
- Recognizes implementation challenges and takes a proactive approach in formulating recovery plans to address issues before they result in schedule and cost implications.
- Authorizes the selection and decisions regarding the make/buy of spacecraft components, overseeing subcontract management.
- Provides updates on project status, challenges, and concerns to Cosmicport’s Founding and Mentor teams.
- Team leader with accountability for managing the team’s cost and schedule performance.
- Oversees relationships with various engineering and production teams (non-direct reports) to achieve project objectives. Establishes and sustains professional working relationships with all project stakeholders throughout the organization.
Basic Qualification:

- Bachelor or Master of Science/Technology degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
- Proven expertise in overseeing and managing employees, coupled with proficiency in task management.
- Comprehensive knowledge of space systems and subsystems, showcasing extensive expertise across various spacecraft engineering disciplines.
- Extensive familiarity with systems engineering methodologies encompassing systems evaluations, requirement handling, performance analysis, and interface oversight.
- Proven capability to recognize and resolve issues through a proactive and systematic approach.
- Proven proficiency in devising and executing project plans, managing costs and schedules against established baselines, and meeting specified requirements and stakeholder expectations.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to travel regularly, including international travel
Preferred Skills:
- 8+ years of proven experience in project management for space systems, spanning multiple spacecraft flight projects and programs.
- Formal project management qualifications such a PMP, APMP, etc.
- Proficiency with project and engineering management tools, e.g., Microsoft Project, etc.
- Experience overseeing both cost-effective and high-cost space programs.
- Experience managing both Deep Space and Lower Earth Orbit missions
- Experience with government customers, government requirements, and government project management practices
- Proficiency in launch vehicle/satellite design, development, and/or operations.
Compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis with consideration of knowledge, skills, education, and experience. You may be eligible for annual bonuses. Insurance coverages and retirement plans are being worked upon and will be disclosed after hire.
