Cosmicport Space Technology Private Limited, Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu
Department: R&D, Launch Vehicle
Employment Type: Full-Time
Minimum Experience: Mid-level
Cosmicport, a space technology startup, is building a launch vehicle tailored for small and medium-range satellites, in addition to advancing Earth Observation Satellites (EOS) designed for Sun-Synchronous Orbits (SSO) to serve commercial entities. Our cost-effective reusable launch vehicle provides precise and dependable launch solutions, facilitating the establishment of constellation platforms. The role being offered involves significant contributions to the design and development of launch vehicles, ensuring optimal aerodynamic performance during the ascent phase of a rocket’s flight, and the incumbent will be an integral part of the Research and Development (R&D) launch vehicle team.
Responsibilities:
- The Aerodynamics engineer will be responsible for analyzing, designing, and optimizing the aerodynamics of launch vehicles to ensure efficient and stable flight through the Earth’s atmosphere.
- This role involves working closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to contribute to the overall success of space missions.
- Conduct detailed aerodynamic analyses using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations and wind tunnel testing.
- Evaluate and optimize vehicle configurations to minimize drag, enhance stability, and improve overall aerodynamic performance.
- Develop innovative solutions to improve aerodynamic efficiency, reduce weight, and enhance mission success through design optimization.
- Work with trajectory analysts to understand and influence the launch vehicle’s flight path. Evaluate the impact of atmospheric conditions on the vehicle’s ascent and identify opportunities for trajectory optimization.
- Collaborate with propulsion engineers to predict and analyze the vehicle’s overall performance based on aerodynamic characteristics. Provide input to optimize thrust profiles and fuel consumption during different phases of flight.
- Conduct structural optimization studies to enhance the overall performance, reliability, and efficiency of space launch vehicle structures.
Basic Qualification:
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering or a related field with a focus on aerodynamics.
- Proven experience in aerodynamic analysis and design, preferably in the aerospace industry.
- Proficiency in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools and software.
- Strong understanding of launch vehicle systems and their interaction with the Earth’s atmosphere.
- Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
- Detail-oriented with a strong problem-solving mindset.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong understanding of launch vehicle systems and their interaction with the Earth’s atmosphere.
- Familiarity with industry-standard software for aerodynamic analysis
- Knowledge of optimization techniques for aerodynamic design.
- Programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, and LabVIEW) for data analysis and model development.
- Ability to deliver against an aggressive schedule.
Compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis with consideration of knowledge, skills, education, and experience. You may be eligible for annual bonuses. Insurance coverages and retirement plans are being worked upon and will be disclosed after hire.
